The city
St. George is Louisiana's newest incorporated city. Voters in the previously unincorporated area southeast of Baton Rouge approved it on October 12, 2019, and after years of litigation it now operates as a city with about 86,000 residents, the second-largest in the parish. It includes long-established communities such as Shenandoah along with many subdivisions along the Airline Highway, Jefferson Highway and Highland Road corridors.
Common HVAC issues
Attic furnace and coil systems
The typical setup is a gas furnace in the attic with an AC coil on top, or a heat pump air handler. Many date from the 2000s or 2010s and are reaching the age where coils leak, blowers fail and furnaces rust.
Post-flood rebuilds
Parts of the area near the Amite River took on water in August 2016, when it reached record levels (2016 Louisiana floods). Homes rebuilt then often got new outdoor units and indoor equipment; those are now about ten years old.
Two-story homes
Upstairs rooms that never cool are common. Zoning, duct changes or a dedicated upstairs system are typical fixes.
Humidity
Oversized systems in newer homes can leave rooms cool but clammy. See humidity and mold.

St. George HVAC FAQs
When did St. George become a city?
Voters approved incorporation on October 12, 2019; the city began operating after legal challenges were resolved.
Why is my upstairs so hot?
Heat rises, attic ducts gain heat, and one system often struggles to serve two floors. Zoning or duct changes can help.
Is my post-2016 AC due for replacement?
Probably not yet, but systems from 2016–2017 benefit from a tune-up and a check for coil leaks and duct problems.
